Notes from the Head 13th September

A very busy first full week back, with classes starting to establish their routines and class rules/ codes of conduct. All the new children who have joined us seem to have settled well and become very familiar faces around school.

Everyone is starting to enjoy their African theme, although Janice is still trying to work out what she can serve as a theme day that the children will actually want to eat!!

I had to be given a big nudge to keep quiet by Mrs Biddle, as the African Hut hadn’t been given its historical roots on Monday. The children were still deciding what they would like it to become. On Tuesday they decided it was an African hut – phew, the staff could continue with their theme. Mrs John shared a talking tub with the children to inspire some inquiry based questions around the theme.

Mrs Pierce and Miss Williams have been leading sessions in the Forest school today and that has been very much enjoyed by pupils.

Miss Douggie has been making sure that Key Stage 2 are not only fit and healthy but also having lots of fun in the PE sessions.

I have seen some impressive repeating patterns in the Foundation Phase class, Miss Roberts is obviously enjoying teaching mathematical skills to the younger pupils.

The Parent and Toddler group was in full swing this morning, the littlies were really enjoying all the activities, parents were getting an occasional two minutes to socialise.

Friday afternoon ended on a very celebratory note with the Open the Book assembly. Well done Orla for some fantastic acting alongside Wendy and Bob.Everyone will go home humming ‘I’m gonna make a difference…..’

We are planning interesting events for the children this term. The PTA, as always, are being very supportive of these. The staff are working hard to engage the children in the planning process so we will have to wait and see which direction they choose.
