Another successful week! I used to take this for granted but since lock-down I appreciate just having all the children in school.
What a start to the beginning of the week, all that rain and the flooding as a result. Staff and pupils were trying to jump over the puddles, other than the ever resourceful Mrs Pierce who had a pair of wellies tucked away in her car.
I did contact Streetscene and I copied in the elected member for our area Owen Thomas and Kevin Hughes the elected member for Nercwys as he is a Nantlwys Governor. Streetscene met with me this afternoon to discuss the concern raised by parents. A big thank you to the Community Council also who raised the matter as well. We are all working towards the same goals. I am hoping that they will put a plan of action together to address these concerns. Mrs Liz Stack has provided me with some good photos to evidence the flooding. The Streetscene representative went away clutching these to share with a colleague.
I was selected as a representative Head teacher to be interviewed by Estyn, the School Inspectorate. The Inspector immediately put me at my ease by saying that Nannerch was a delightful school in a fabulous setting. He had very fond memories of his visit here. I was in total agreement that it is indeed a very special school, appreciated by all.
He was really pleased to hear how high our attendance was and that the parents had faith that we would do our utmost to keep our pupils safe. I did say that everyone was enjoying being back in the school setting. I was able to say that Parents were being very supportive of the school’s procedures and weren’t complaining about the extra steps even on wet mornings like last Monday. I told him that staff had been wonderfully supportive and it was very much a team approach to support pupil Wellbeing and Learning.
We are very conscious that communication with parents is more challenging at the moment. We have restarted the Class Blogs to be able to share the classroom experience in more detail. Mrs John and the Foundation Phase class are leading this week.
Due to the Covid Pandemic and our restrictions currently, we aren’t able to facilitate Parent’s Evenings to discuss your child’s progress. As a school we have decided to publish all parents a progress report and welcome parents to view their child’s learning on Seesaw. If you have any major concerns please make a phone call appointment with your child’s teacher. Thank you.
