We are at the end of another busy week. Community is one of our Church values and this week we see it being strengthened through my wonderful colleagues and our federation. Mrs John and I both have been interviewing this week. Mrs Foster from Nercwys has not only been preparing work for the New Curriculum for our Federation but has also supported Yr 5 and 6 in Nannerch.
Mrs Foster really enjoyed her day with the pupils. She loves our outdoor environment and can’t wait to be able to return to joint activities next year. Mrs John has also been working with the older pupils doing lots of Team Building activities along with comparing and contrasting, ‘being a good friend’ in the virtual world compared to the face to face world. Pupils worked in their talking Partners to discuss the differences and similarities and created Mindmaps which were discussed.
We were thrilled to welcome Mrs Downes as she visited our lovely pupils and colleagues. Mrs Downes spent the whole afternoon with our Junior pupils reading them a wonderful story about ‘Hope’. She spent time chatting to pupils and generally ‘catching up!’ Mrs Downes then spent time with us in our staff meeting as we were planning for the new curriculum. Although both Nannerch and Nercwys are well equity for the changes to the curriculum ~ already working in a creative way which is led by pupil voice, a shared vision with our school community is important to build upon. We have some super plans in September so we are looking forward to sharing them with you. Thank you Mrs Downes for visiting us.
Mrs Pierce has also been busy with Years 5 and 6, researching the Olympics and creating Dream Poems which are wonderful. Miss Roberts has enjoyed working with Years 3 and 4 on the Olympics and creating effective slogans.
Miss Roberts and Mrs John planned Sports Day on Wednesday with KS2 pupils. This isn’t how we would have planned things but Covid regulations gave us no option. Flintshire are being very strict with schools. The most important thing is that everyone really enjoyed themselves! I think the day was a big hit with lots of fun and smiles.
Interviewing alongside Mrs John and I were two very skilled members of our Governing Body. Mrs Della Thomas, who is a Human Resources consultant and Mrs Cath Yeardley a retired Headteacher and also our Bishop’s Visitor. We told them that we had been extremely impressed at the high standard of some of the lessons observed.
They could see why we had been impressed during the lesson observations. Our feedback was similar to the Governors experience at interview. It was wonderful to have such strong candidates.
I know the pupils are extremely keen to find out who has been appointed. However we do have to collect references and complete other checks first in accordance with Flintshire policy. We are hoping to tell the pupils and our families on Monday. We know everyone is keen to hear the news.
We have reorganised staffing slightly this week as we are very happy with Miss McCormick working in Mrs John’s class. Foundation Phase are so well settled and they have really enjoyed their week. Branwen’s Blog this week is full of excitement!
Can I also say a big thank you and well done to Miss Williams. We have both successfully completed a three day First Aid course. We have ensured sufficient qualified First Aiders on site when Miss Roberts starts her maternity leave.
Pupils have a very busy week planned next week along with an exciting trip for KS2 on Friday. We can’t wait! Have a lovely weekend everyone.
