Notes from the Head:
Another busy week in Ysgol Nannerch and it was lovely to welcome Joe a former pupil who is currently studying his PGCE in secondary teaching. Joe had to fulfil a week in a primary school hence his visit. We wish Joe a successful teaching practice at his next school placement and thank him for a great week. Good luck Joe!
I had the pleasure of teaching the juniors during the week. It is always great to see their progress first hand and to share time with such independent and enthusiastic learners. Pupils are working very hard on their new topic and whilst Yr 3 and 4 were proudly showing me their working wall and iBeacon research questions, Yr 5 and 6 were sharing their learning on the Tudors and geographical knowledge of Wales!
In service this week I began reading a book to the pupils called ‘You are awesome’ by Matthew Syed. It was lovely seeing so many children saying they already had this book at home. It encourages us to think differently, by challenging our beliefs that hold us back. We are all awesome!
Next week we have our Valentines PTA disco on Wednesday and Nercwys pupils have been invited by our school council. We are looking forward to the evening! On Wednesday afternoon we also have Croeso Pawb, celebrating love and kindness. Please join us in church for 2.30pm.
Have a lovely weekend!
News from our Classes
Mrs Pierce's Class: Gwydion
This week we learnt a lot about the Tudors and teeth. Our new topic is Tudors. We have been choosing famous people from the Tudor times to play a game called I’m a celebrity get me out of here to find out about famous Tudors. In science have been doing an experiment to see the effect on fizzy drinks on teeth, using vinegar and water, to observe the different effects on an eggshell. Our classroom was very smelly with vinegar!
We have had a special visitor through out the week -Mr. Costidell is training to be a teacher. Next week he is going to Hawarden high until June, it was fun working with him, we will be sad to see him go.
In language we wrote a reply to Mr. Wright’s letter about banning playtime. We used all our persuasive powers, so we're sure he will now agree to have play times every day!
In math's we were doing multiplying by 10 and 100 - we found this pretty easy peasy. Yr6 had to find the area of triangles.
On Friday we had Mrs John in our class, we were doing pictures of famous Tudor people. Oscar did sir Francis Drake and Tilly did Catharine Howard . Some children continued with their sewing.
Our homework this week is to produce two Top Trump cards about famous Tudors.
By Oscar and Tilly.
Miss Roberts Class: Owain
I can't believe we only have 2 more weeks of term. This first half term seems to be flying by!
Year 3 and 4 have enjoyed having Mr Costidell in school this week. He helped out in class on Wednesday and has been a favourite in playtime, playing lots of football! The children particularly liked Mr Costidell's role in Mr Wright's assembly this week.
Also this is Year 3 and 4 have learnt, performed, self-assessed and then adapted the Pie Corbett story, The Old Mill. Our new version is called The Haunted Hills and is about a boy named Jack who sees a dragon and dreams of ghosts! Very spooky.
We were set a challenge by James Henry Trotter to investigate which drink is the worst for your teeth. The children planned, organised and carried out an investigation using eggs! They were surprised at just how much damage was caused by orange juice. They made comparisons of how the drinks would damage the enamel on your teeth. I think some children may also be putting less vinegar on their food now!
In our maths work we have began looking at money, this week the children have made different amount using as many and as leadt amount of coins as possible.
Today KS2 celebrated Ddyd Miwsig Cymru! Year 3-6 listened to Welsh songs and voted for their favourite! We also read a Welsh comic, which proved very popular.
Year 3 and 4's homework is to practice their Welsh poem for the school Eisteddfod. We have been learning it in class and all the children have been great! I can't wait to see how much you have learnt next week!
Reminder- Hockey club started this week and will continue on a Wednesday 3pm - 3.45pm.
Have a lovely weekend!
