2nd May Notes from the Head

Thank you so much for the welcome I have received from pupils, staff and parents. There is a lovely warm atmosphere in school, making it a pleasure to join the staff. Mrs John did describe the school as a ‘special place’ and I would whole heartedly agree. I have been so impressed at how nice and polite all the pupils have been. They have all been extremely well behaved in lessons.   I think I have missed out on some of the exciting events which have taken place this week in Kingswood. The pupils have all had a fantastic time and have been extremely well looked after

by accompanying staff from both schools. I heard that the centre staff were very complimentary about pupils from both schools – their politeness and the way they engaged with all the activities. I was really pleased to see a message from Mrs John saying ‘mission accomplished’ for the Nantlwys Federation, pupils are mixing so well together. Key Stage 2 pupils have enjoyed challenging themselves and gaining a sense of achievement from all their successes. They have made new friends and had lots of fun.   We have had lots of smiles too in Foundation Phase with Mrs Biddle having to reach up high to place all the fantastic dream catchers. Nursery were also having a lovely time proving how fast they could zoom on the bikes and trikes.   A very exciting start to the new term.

Branwen 2nd May

A lovely first week back after our Easter break! We have enjoyed having our new Headteacher Mrs Meaden in school whilst the juniors were out on their residential trip.

We have begun thinking and asking questions for our new topic ‘Water’. Pupils have created mind-maps and asked questions such as, where does water come from? Where does it go underneath the shower? What lives in the ocean? Are there shipwrecks under the sea? These questions will feed into our skill development and learning through a child centred approach.

Pupils have been learning about capacity using standard and non standard units of measures. We used measuring jugs and coloured paints to mix and create different colours and shades using different quantities. It was so much fun but very messy!

In R.E we listened to the Bible story of Jonah and the Whale and visualised it. Da iawn pawb!

Mrs John read us a very funny story called Billy’s Bucket. She stopped just before the end and asked us to discuss with our talking partner what we thought would happen next! We didn’t expect a whale would fly out of the bucket!

This will be our class text this term, where we will be using it for story telling and writing.

Yr 2 have their Welsh National Tests next week but will ensure pupils feel happy and comfortable. There may even be a few treats in store!

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend.
