Notes from the Head:
It was a sports-filled week this week. Our playground committee is keen for the School to achieve the Bronze Award for active pupil participation in sports. We are almost there now, just need to ensure we have run the Playmaker sessions regularly over our playtimes.
On Monday pupil representatives from Ysgol Nannerch will be visiting Bryn Deva for the day. Thank you to Ewan and Georgia for organising this. Hopefully, the pupils at Bryn Deva can share with us some of their School Council actions as inspiration for us.
We were visited by staff from the Hafod Federation this week to share with them some of our Foundation Phase practices. It is great to have such an open culture and for our schools to work together as learning organisations. Over the week some of the children attended tournaments for football and rounders. The children of Nannerch all displayed sporting behaviours and performed well. Well done especially to the Year 3&4 football team who were in the final for the first place.
Thank you to all who brought Bags 2 School this week, and also well done to our PTA who raised over £600 last week which will be used to purchase ipads. Thank you also to year 5&6 who have so far raised over £1000 with their Rocket Fund pitch on the crowdfunding website Their aim is to raise enough money for 4 new iPads.
Next week is another busy week for us in Ysgol Nannerch, on Tuesday pupils from Cilcain, Lixwm and Caerwys will be joining us to welcome the Senedd Outreach team, in readiness for the Year 6 visit to Cardiff. We also have some exciting whole school Space Workshops taking place on Wednesday.
News from our Classes
Mrs Pierce & Mrs Downes Class: Gwydion
On Monday we finished writing and editing our science fiction short stories ready for our Big Read next Monday. We also chose our own question to investigate in science, anything to do with light. We had to choose the right equipment and come up with a conclusion. It was a busy afternoon and we had to finish it on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday we researched all about the Mars One Mission, we'll all be about 26 when the first astronauts go, and we showed each other how to programme the 'egg-box'. Now we can control traffic lights and the clown. The girls went to Gronant in the afternoon to play football, it was good.
Some of us went to the Alun on Wednesday to play rounders. It was windy. We also had a nice afternoon doing our spirit art.
Thursday morning we all went to play football and in the afternoon we did the whole bible in 30 minutes! Most of the class presented their homework on Friday - what a lot of information and many different ways of showing it. We finished with rounders.
Miss Robert’s Class: Owain
Sam and Rosie are doing the blog this week.
We went on a bus to the Alun School on Thursday and we played a football tournament against 9 other teams. We all really enjoyed it, we played 5 matches. We got to the final and we came 2nd overall!
On Friday we did DT which is Design and Technology. We made our Space-Safe Pencil Case so that our things wouldn’t float about. We haven’t finished our design yet but we have completed all the pockets and holders for our equipment!
Also this week we have been listening to some of the projects which we did as homework on Space. We got to choose our own questions to answer. So far every ones have been great!
Another task we did was to design our own perfect World. We got to choose the name, the flag, the rules of what you must and must not do there. We really enjoyed that. There was a Pizza world, a Happy world and lots more!
Finally, we really liked creating a class story board. This was because we worked as a team!
Thanks for reading. Rosie & Sam

We have been continuing our learning on HWB this week. Pupils have been logging on using their unique password and exploring Draw and Chart. Pupils have designed illustrations for their stories, saved and printed. Next week we are going to learn how to send an email safely.
Pupils in Maths have been given ‘liquorice allsorts’ to sort into a variety of ways. Pupils could choose their own sorting method and they came up with colour, 3D shape, amounts, least popular and most popular. Yr 2 had to collate all their information in anyway they saw appropriate and create a block graph on HWB. Fantastic work!
It has been exciting seeing our seed experiment progress. We found out the mystery seeds were cress. We have compared the cress which was either in the dark, in the sun, with or without water and tasted, smelt and looked at the differences. We found out so much and realised how important water and sunlight was to help grow plants.
It was great to be back in Forest school and our eco classroom. Our new Nursery pupils loved the mud kitchen! We used tools to make Elder bracelets with secateurs and nails. We found that Elder has a soft middle section which we hollowed out. A real test of our fine motor control.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
