Notes from the Head:

Dear children, parents, staff, governors friends and community of Nannerch.

This is my last blog as Headteacher of Ysgol Nannerch and as I sit here typing I feel so proud of our children and the Nannerch school community.  From the moment I stepped into Ysgol Nannerch 10 years ago I knew I was in a really amazing and special place.  A place that holds a deep history surrounded as it is by the heartbeat of our stunning Welsh hills.

This morning I took a card from the children to our MP David Hanson.  He was delighted with their messages and the memories they are holding about our recent trip to Westminster.  This was for me a perfect final task as the Head of Ysgol Nannerch. It also comes in a week when Simon one of our pupils took up his role on the Advisory Panel with the Children's Commissioner for Wales.  This is an amazing achievement.

Our Year 6 leavers Service on Wednesday was also very special.  The children were as outstanding in there performance as ever.  They held us all in awe as they spoke of their memories and also their dreams for a future world filled with hope. The children read parts of their applications which they had written to Sally Holland, the Children's Commissioner for Wales.

As a staff and community we are so proud of our young people and as Rev'd Sue said following the service, 'our children give us great hope for a better future'.  We send then onwards with all our love and very best wishes as they begin a new chapter in their lives.

The special celebration held for me on Wednesday afternoon was a lovely surprise.  It was another perfect example of the incredible warmth and joyfulness found in a small village school.  Seeing the children playing across so many age groups was simply delightful.  Thank you all so much for the beautiful gifts and special messages.  I shall hold dear the memory of these last few days close in my heart.

Of course we are also saying goodbye to Scott our cook.  We all wish Scott our very best wishes as he also starts his new adventure which will be very different to working in a primary school.  Scott is starting an exciting new career - brewing craft beers.

I will close finally by wishing everyone a very safe and happy summer holiday and hope to see you all when I visit Ysgol Nannerch in my new role as Education Officer for the Diocese of St Asaph.

All my love,

Mrs Downes xxx
