Notes from the Head:
By now most people will have heard that this is my last term as Headteacher of Ysgol Nannerch. It was difficult telling the children my news this week. I will miss all our Ysgol Nannerch children very, very much. Especially hard will not be hearing all their news and chatting with them every day.
I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching and leading the school forward over the last ten years. I know the school is in safe hands, we have an excellent leadership team and Nannerch has a bright future ahead.
My new role will keep me very much involved in school life and education. I take up my post as Education Officer with the diocesan team based in St Asaph this September. In the meantime, I am looking forward to being in school and to all the events we have organised for the summer.
It has been a fairly busy week this week with the children's trip to Theatre Clwyd where they met up with their Nercwys friends to watch the show and take part in the workshop based on 'How To Spot An Alien'. On Wednesday we were so fortunate with the weather for our sports day, well done to all the children and a big thank you to all who supported them. Special thanks to the PTA who again provided some excellent fundraising activities.
I was delighted to accompany those Year 6 who will be attending the Alun School to a transition event this week. I was so impressed with the children's confidence and willingness to mix with all other pupils. It was especially good to see our past Nannerch pupils taking time to check in with their peers.
Next week we are sharing our good practice with two local schools. The staff of the Hafod Federation will be visiting our Foundation Phase for ideas on how to work creatively in the classroom. I will be supporting staff at Westwood in Buckley on bringing some mindful practice into their classrooms.

News from our Classes
Mrs Pierce & Mrs Downes Class: Gwydion
This week we have been really busy! We have been writing an alien story based on the book 'Aliens on Vacations'. We have continued the space theme by creating artwork inspired by the work of Peter Thorpe. On Tuesday we met our friends from Nercwys at the theatre. We loved seeing everyone again, watching the show 'How to Spot an alien'. The alien workshop was amazing too!
Our kitchen servery area has been completed and we love how bright and cheerful it looks now. Thanks to Will and his mum for working so hard to finish this for us.
Sports Day was good. The relay was our highlight, it was good to run as a team. Congratulations to Glyndwr, the winning house and to Evie and Ewan who are this year's sports champions. Thank you to our parents for letting us have ice creams too!
On Friday some of the Year 6 went to the Alun to make shortbread. They were excited about going, enjoyed the experience and felt very full after eating so much shortbread. The rest of us stayed in school and made space themed fruit kebabs with Miss Williams.
On Friday afternoon we worked with Miss Roberts, it was good fun working towards promoting our Rocket fund Campaign. Keep an eye out for it next week!

Hi Finlay and Osian here.
This week we went to Theatre Clwyd and watched ‘How to Spot an Alien’. It was really funny and they even did the floss! We did a work shop after lunch we had a little break, after that we met with some pupils from Nercwys and we created our own planet! We decided what we wanted it to be like.
On Wednesday we had Sports Day and it was not too cold and not too hot! Even the rain was saved until afterwards! We had an ice cream truck come, it was really packed after Sports Day.
Miss Roberts found a website called cartoonify and we got to make our own Daddy’s in to cartoon characters. You’ll have to wait until Father’s Day to see them though.
Have a nice weekend everybody.

We all really enjoyed Sports Day! We are very proud of our Nursery pupils who tried so hard and weren’t distracted by all the mummies and Daddies, amazing! Thank you to everyone who helped, it was lovely having our past pupils back for the day. We loved the ice-cream van so thank you PTA it was a real treat.
Our visit to Theatre Clwyd was so much fun. We met our friends from Nercwys and watched a performance called ‘How to spot an alien’! It was very visual and covered a whole range of emotions! Later that day we took part in workshops which supported our confidence and self esteem. We planned our own planets and thought about the world we would want to live in.
Our stories are looking great. We are trying hard with our handwriting and learning to use HWB to support our story designs and front covers.
On Thursday we received an exciting parcel from NASA! It contained a letter and a bag of seeds which had been returned to earth from Mars! We have been given an experiment to carry out to find out how astronauts will grow food when they begin the Mars One mission. Pupils have decided to test if water and sunlight are important factors when growing plants. Da iawn pawb!
Most Pupils have brought into school their project homework, we are very excited about presenting these next week. If you haven’t brought it in yet you still have time!
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
